Call For Composers – EUROMUSE

0

DEADLINE: 25TH JANUARY 2025

We are thrilled to announce an open call for young composers from Europe (ages 18 to 30) to participate in the EUROMUSE project, which aims to transform the museum experience with original applied music.

After training sessions, residencies, and participative workshops, selected composers will have the opportunity to create original applied music for one of the following museums:

Six selected composers (two per museum) will participate in:

  • Three expert-led online one-hour training sessions (March 2025)
  • A seven-day residency (April 2025, museum venue)
  • Participative online workshops with museum representatives and volunteers from the Community Muse Board in each museum (beginning in April-May 2025)
  • Composing process (from 15th April to 15th June 2025)
  • Promotion period, release of album, and online concerts (May 2026)

Description:

The music should be original, 20 to 30 minutes long, and related to the museum, its exhibits, and local specificities. It could be electronic/electroacoustic or computer music. Musical instruments may also be involved, but the composer will carefully manage their performance and recording.

Travel costs, accommodation, and per diems for the seven-day residency will be covered, along with mixing & mastering by project partners and a €1000 prize for the final composition. The prize includes the museum’s right to use the composition without additional royalties.

Experts from the Center for Applied Music and IEMA—Greek Music Information Centre will select the composers.

Selected composers will be notified by February 20, 2025, and will be engaged in the EUROMUSE project until April 2026, with several promotional activities and a project music album to be released.

The project is co-funded by Creative Europe Programme of the European Union

The application deadline is 25th January 2025.

More About the Project:

The EUROMUSE project announces its innovative artistic initiative aimed at redefining the museum experience through applied music. By combining participatory music creation with in-depth research, the project seeks to foster deeper connections between visitors and cultural heritage, setting a new standard for museum engagement.

At the heart of EUROMUSE is the collaborative effort of young composers, museum professionals, researchers, and active museum audiences organized into Community Muse Boards (CMBs). This partnership explores how music can serve as a subtle yet powerful medium to enhance visitor engagement, create lasting memories, and attract diverse audiences.

EUROMUSE is an international collaboration with partners from Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Serbia, as well as trainers and lecturers from France, the UK, and beyond. Over 900 visitors, along with professionals from the museum and music sectors, will take part in this effort to redefine engagement in museums.
